Some minor but interesting news (I suppose?). MPEG LA announced today that Samsung Electronics has decided to sue Polaroid and Westinghouse for ATSC patent infringement. Samsung is a patent holder in MPEG LA’s ATSC Patent Portfolio License and claims that Polaroid and Westinghouse are offering products (televisions, TV tuners, set-top boxes, and DVRs) that use patent-protected ATSC methods without entering into a license offered by MPEG LA. Samsung is seeking monetary damages and an injunction against Polaroid and Westinghouse from using ATSC patents.
