xbox 360 elite With the release of Metal Gear Solid 4, things are definitely starting to look up for Sony’s PlayStation 3. While console sales for the PS3 and Xbox 360 have not exactly been stellar, the PS3 has certainly been selling more than the Xbox 360. This could mean a couple of things – perhaps people are finding the PS3 much more attractive now with new exclusive titles coming out and of course Blu-ray support. It could also mean the Xbox 360 is finally hitting some sort of saturation point in the market with the console being the oldest one of the next generation consoles. Of course at the end of the day, it’s all about the content and recently, the PS3 has had some momentum.

As a result, EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich, believes Microsoft will announce a price cut for the Xbox 360 at the upcoming E3 summit in July. He had this to say:

“With E3 around the corner, we can expect Microsoft to make some type of announcement regarding a hardware price cut, the introductory of a new hardware SKU with new features, or both. If there is a hardware price cut, it is not known if Sony will follow suit right way, but it would be safe to assume that Sony would execute some type of plan within a 2 month window of any hardware price cut from the Xbox 360.”

A mid-year price cut would certainly help Microsoft compete against the Sony PS3 and frankly, a new SKU with Blu-ray would certainly induce me to upgrade my Xbox 360 console which has been on the fritz recently.
