Make sure to get your digital to analog TV converter box coupon request in soon
If you’re one of the millions of Americans who will need a digital TV converter box next year AND you haven’t applied for the rebate coupon – you might want to do so soon! Officials for the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), which is in charge of the $40 dollar converter coupon program, are warning that more money is needed to help mail out the coupons.
The problem? Not all the mailed out coupons are being used by the consumers within the allotted 90 day time period. As a result, if the coupon is not used within the time period, the money is then returned back to the program – thus making it available for others who might be asking for the coupon. Unfortunately, this also means more stamps are needed to send out these coupons and that’s where the problem is arising.
Currently, only 42 percent of the coupons being mailed out are being redeemed before they expire. It appears people are not hurrying out to purchase a converter box once they get the coupon from the government. The program originally had enough money to fund 33.5 million converter boxes. More than 16 million coupon requests have already been received by the NTIA which means there’s still a little bit of time to get your request in if you haven’t done so. However, do so soon otherwise there might not be enough money for the darn stamps needed to mail out the coupon!
If you need a box – Best Buy is selling an Insignia branded box for $59.99. Circuit City has a Zenith model going for the same price also.
