Last week, we mentioned that ASUS was planning to roll out a desktop complement to the Eee PC notebook series called the Eee Box. The company has officially taken off the details of the Eee Box and the results are pretty interesting. According to the folks at HotHardware, the new Eee Box PC will come with an Intel Atom processor, 512MB to 2GB of RAM, 80 to 250GB HDD, and your choice of Linux or Windows XP. Here are the full specs:
- Intel Atom N270 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz
- 512MB, 1GB, 2GB memory configurations
- 80GB, 120GB, 160GB, 250GB hard drive configurations

- Intel GMA 950 graphics with a max resolution of 1600 x 1200
- Gigabit Ethernet support

Now onto the US configurations and pricing:
- 1GB memory + 80GB HDD Linux edition for $269
- 1GB memory + 80GB HDD XP edition for $299

The $299 Linux system definitely appears to be the sweet spot here – just get that box and install Windows XP via an external USB optical drive (which you’ll need to have handy of course).
