Intel is planning to enter the Solid State Drive (SSD) market with their own product line called the Intel High Performance SSD. According to DigiTimes, Intel will roll out two versions by the end of the third quarter – the Client X25-M and the Client X18-M. The X25-M is a 2.5 inch drive while the X18-M is a 1.8 inch drive. Both drives will have 80 GB of storage capacity and a SATA interface. Intel plans on releasing a 160GB drive by the end of the fourth quarter and larger drives in 2009. These new SSDs will be bundled as part of the Centrino 2 platform – ah yes.. more bundling choices for hardware OEMs – making it harder for third party hardware vendors to sneak their products in.
