An Intel representative in the U.S. has “emphatically denied” a report that Apple is planning to use the new Intel Atom processor in an upcoming iPhone like product. Yesterday, a report on the German ZDnet website cited a German Intel executive as stating that Apple was planning to use the Intel Atom processor. However, the article has since been modified to state that Apple might use the Atom in a future Mobile Internet Device. The operative word here is MIGHT. This confirms the notion that yes – the Atom processor is not quite ready for Apple’s needs. Of course most of us already suspected this given the thermal envelope of the Atom processor. However, it was fun to speculate the possibility that a product with the Atom might be in the wings from Apple. Alas.. we’ll just have to wait for the next 3G version of the iPhone instead.
