Totally missed this press release from a few days ago. ASUS officially announced the second generation Eee PC – the Eee PC 900. The new model comes on the heels of the announcement that 1 million Eee PC’s have been sold in the first 5 months of the notebook’s life. The new 900 series features a larger display at 8.9 inches, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, more storage space, and a new FingerGlide technology (similar to Apple’s Multi-Touch technology). Despite the larger display, the Eee PC 900 still weighs under 1kg while delivering a resolution of 1024 x 600. Like the first version of the Eee PC, the 900 series will be available in either a Windows model or a Linux model. The Windows version will come with 12GB of storage space while the Linux version comes with 20GB (remember that there’s actually two SSD drives on these systems – a default 4GB SSD and a secondary SSD with the remainder of the space).
The specs are as follows:
- 8.9 inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600
- Available in Pearl White or Black
- Intel mobile processor
- Intel mobile chipset
- 1GB DDRII memory
- Intel UMA graphics
- 12GB of space for Windows and 20GB for Linux
- HD audio
- Integrated speakers
- 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi
- 1.3 megapixel webcam
- SD/MMC slot
- 3 USB ports, VGA out, earphone jack, microphone, Ethernet
- Windows XP Home or Linux
- Measures 22.5 x 17 x 2 cm and weighs 0.99 kg
