Psystar sells systems capable of running OS X Leopard
In case you missed it yesterday, a small relatively unknown computer company called Psystar Corporation, is selling a computer billed as capable of running Mac OS X Leopard. They’re offering two types of systems - a low end box called the “Open Computer” and a high end box called the “OpenPro” (sounds like a familiar Apple system eh?). Of course if you’re looking for a fancy looking Apple clone - forget it. These boxes certainly won’t win any design awards.
The “Open Computer” sells for $399.99 without Leopard and features:
- Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 processor running at 2.2 GHz
- 2GB of RAM
- Intel GMA 950 graphics
- 20X DVD+/-R SATA drive with Lightscribe
- 4 USB 2.0 ports
- 250GB HDD
You can also ask them to install Leopard for you for an extra $155.
Meanwhile, the “OpenPro” Computer sells for $999.99 and comes with:
- Intel Core 2 Duo running at 2.6GHz (upgradable to Core 2 Quad processors)
- 150GB 10,000 RPM HDD
- NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 512MB video card
- 2GB of RAM
- Firewire and USB ports
If you’re interested in these systems, you better hurry. It’s highly probable that Apple will force Psystar to stop selling these systems at some point in the near future.
