ASUS Eee PC 900 has room for two SSDs
Now here’s an interesting piece of information regarding the ASUS Eee PC 900. Apparently, the ultra-portable notebook features two separate solid state drives. There’s a 4GB SSD that’s soldered directly onto the motherboard and then there’s a secondary SSD available. For Windows systems, the Eee PC 900 will come with an 8GB secondary SSD while Linux systems will come with a 16GB SSD. It looks like the goal is to keep OS and related materials to the primary SSD and everything else on the secondary drive.
While it might sound like a bad idea for consumers, I think we’re discounting the intelligence of those who would be interested in a device like the Eee PC. Eee PC owners are likely to be either geeks or folks interested in a lightweight secondary notebook (and perhaps kids.. and we all know kids are smart!) In any event, it’s not hard to figure out that there are two drives on the system and you can store data on either drive. Perhaps the real confusion might be under Windows where the default documents folder will be on the C drive – presumably on the 4GB SSD.
