Sony to add DTS-HD Master Audio decoding on PS3
Some good news for those of you who use the PS3 as a Blu-ray player. Sony will be releasing an update allowing the Playstation 3 to finally decode DTS-HD Master Audio (MA) audio tracks on some Blu-ray titles. "DTS-HD MA has the ability to deliver audio at a variable rate of 24.5 Mbps on a Blu-ray disc".
One important thing to note. Those of you with receivers capable of decoding DTS-HD MA will be disappointed to hear that the PS3 cannot pass the signal directly to the receiver. The PS3 can only decode the signal and pass the resulting signals as multi-channel PCM. Bummer for those who like their decoding to take place on the receiver end.
You can expect to find the new update on Tax Day (boo) - April 15th.
