Windows XP enabled ASUS Eee PC on sale at Best Buy
The Windows XP enabled ASUS Eee PC’s are now available for purchase at Best Buy’s online website for $399 (though the black one is supposedly available at some retail stores). There are currently two models available on the website – a Pearl White model and a Galaxy Black model. Both systems come with the same specs which include:
- Intel Celeron M processor running at 900 MHz
- 512 MB of RAM
- 7 inch WVGA TFT LCD display (800 x 480)
- 4GB solid state drive (SSD)
- Intel UMA graphics
- Integrated web cam and microphone
- 3 USB 2.0 ports
- 802.11 b/g
- 10/100 Ethernet
- Weight of 2 lb and 1.3 inches thin
- Windows XP Home Edition
CNET’s Crave posted an early look at the XP enabled Eee PC here on their website. They even ran some of their benchmarks on the Eee PC and noted that it “outpaced the 9-inch Intel Classmate PC” which has the same processor and a larger hard drive. What was most impressive was the boot time – 15 seconds. Very nice.
One last thought. The $399 price for the Windows XP enabled version is the same price as the Linux enabled system. Either ASUS is swallowing up the extra cost of having Windows or Microsoft decided to cut them some slack in Windows licensing costs?
