sprint logo Yesterday’s announcements of new unlimited calling plans by Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile may spark a new series of price wars as analysts now expect Sprint to offer a flat rate calling plan that undercuts the rivals by as much as 40 percent.

According to Reuters (via News.com), analysts are saying that Sprint is considering an unlimited calling plan “for as low as $60 a month in a bid to stem customer defections.”

If Sprint decides to pursue this course of action, you can be sure the rest of the carriers will respond in kind thereby triggering a new mobile phone price war which could hurt the overall industry in terms of sales and revenues. It’s unclear whether AT&T nor Verizon would try and match any aggressive lower pricing by Sprint but it’s quite possible the companies would go below their announced $99 dollar price plans.
