Here’s an interesting rumor for those of you interested in either the iPhone or the iPod touch. According to a tip received by the folks at 9 to 5 Mac, Apple is planning to drop the prices on both the iPhone and the iPod touch by $100 dollars in the next several months. It’s not clear exactly when the price drop will occur (it could be as soon as the end of this month or as late as the middle of April).

Other interesting information from this tip include the possibility that Apple will drop the 8GB iPod touch altogether from the product line. This could very well be the case as Apple will surely want to keep profit margins as high as possible by selling higher capacity iPod touch devices.

While a cheaper iPhone will certainly be welcome news to those holding out for the device, it might make more sense to wait for the rumored 3G enabled iPhone which SHOULD make its appearance sometime later this year (unless of course you love the slow pokey dialup speed EDGE network that the current iPhone uses).
