3DV Systems announces the ZCam
An Israel-based company called 3DV Systems, has announced a produce called the ZCam - “a low cost 3D PC camera that senses depth in real time.” 3DV Systems will initially target the ZCam towards the PC and video game industry in the hopes of changing the human-machine interface thanks to gesture recognition capabilities.
The ZCam provides real time depth imaging at 60 frames per second and supposedly has low CPU utilization which translates to low processing needs (leaving more for your gaming needs). With the ability to sense depth in real time, 3DV Systems is hoping content developers will use the ZCam to create a “new innovative experience”. Some of the possibilities include the ability to navigate simply through the use of your thumb or heck – even through the use of your entire body as a controller for your application/game.
Could the ZCam open the way to more gesture based computing environments?
