If you’re an Xbox 360 owner and you didn’t realize this yet – the 2007 Fall Dashboard Update is now available so turn on that console of yours and connect the 360 to Xbox Live. There are a ton of new features available with the Fall Dashboard update including new family controls, the ability to download original Xbox games, new cheaper Xbox Live Arcade games and major updates to audio/video support. In fact, enough has been enhanced in the video area that you owe it to yourself to check out the video FAQ over at the developer’s blog here.

In the meantime, the folks at ExtremeTech have decided to revisit the Xbox 360 and see if DVD playback has been improved with the new Dashboard update. The verdict? Unfortunately .. no Here’s a blurb from the article:

It’s still a poor upscaling DVD player at best. In contrast, the PS3 with its latest firmware makes a really excellent upscaling player

Well at least we can stream DivX 5.0+ files now..  I’ll post snapshots of the new Dashboard later tonight.
