HP continued to expand it’s workstation offerings by announcing two new eight-core workstations – the HP xw6600 and the HP xw8600. Both systems are powered by next generation Quad-Core and Dual Core Intel Xeon processors and are designed to meet the needs of computing-intensive industries.  Features of these new workstations include the following:

  • Two next generation Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor 5400 series or Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor 5200 series based on new Intel 45 nm processes
  • Dual, full performance PCI Express Gen2 x 16 graphics slots
  • Support for up to 128 GB of memory on the xw8600
  • Storage capacities up to 5 terabytes
  • 90 percent recyclable by weight
  • Standard with 80 percent efficient power supplies
  • Optimized for desk-side, desktop, or rack mount solutions

Both the HP xw6600 and the xw8600 Workstations will come out in mid-December with prices starting in at around $1200.
