Toshiba_HD-A2_270x145 Well it looks like standalone HD DVD players have broken yet another price point – this time the $200 dollar mark. Crave (via Engadget HD and the AVS Forums) has a posting up about how the entry level Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player can now be had for as little as $198. Keep in mind of course that the HD-A2 only supports up to 720p/1080i and not the full 1080p spec but that’s still pretty darn good for a standalone player. The only other way to get a cheap HD DVD unit is to go get yourself a Microsoft Xbox 360 HD DVD player add-on for $179 – assuming of course you have an Xbox 360 console already. Plus given that it’s nearly the holiday season, it’s not unreasonable to expect the HD-A2 will be as low as $180 by the end of the month or come Christmas time.
