ipod touch review Cliff Edwards of Business Week has posted his opinion of the new Apple iPod touch and the title of his article says it all – "The iPod Touch Fails to Wow". Here’s a quote from the article:

In short, the Touch may be the coolest new kid on the iPod block, but it will appeal to a smaller audience than the Classic or Nano because of its limitations and inflated price tag.

Edwards points out a number of shortcomings in the device which are certainly legitimate – everything from limited applications, to removal of key hardware features (that are available on the iPhone), to unusual shortcomings. Of course there’s something important here – the iPod touch is first and foremost, an iPod. To be fair to Apple, the touch is focused on delivering digital audio. Yeah it would be nice for the touch to have a microphone and built in speakers.. but the other iPods certainly don’t have this feature so why should the touch. Adding additional widgets to the touch would have been nice too but then we’d be blurring the lines between the touch and the iPhone.. and let’s face it – Apple certainly wouldn’t want to piss off iPhone customers anymore than they already have. So.. Apple had some serious design considerations here.. and to their credit, the touch is pretty cool. It’s far from perfect but it does "Wow" to a certain extent – more so than any other MP3 player on the market at this time.
