While I’ve tried to stay away from posting about all of those iPhone unlock stories, I thought this one was important enough to write about. The folks at freeiphoneunlock (looks like the site is down now) are in the process of writing a simplified GUI-based one-click program which will effectively unlock the iPhone for other mobile phone systems. As ExtremeTech recommends, you still might want to way a few days or so and let all the other guinea pigs try the program out first before you jump into the waters. It’s still not quite a one step program as of yet but it’s clear people are getting there. Of course.. I still have a concern that Apple will roll out updates to the iPhone that will crippled any unlocking that you might have accomplished.. but then again, the hacker community will probably find workarounds for that too.
