Acer buys Gateway for $710 million
Some interesting PC news today. Taiwanese PC manufacturer, Acer, announced today that they would buy Gateway for $710 million dollars. This amounts to $1.90 per Gateway share which is a premium of 57 percent over Gateway’s last closing price. The merger of the two companies would create the world’s number 3 largest PC manufacturer with sales of $15 billion dollars and 20 million PC’s shipped every year. For Acer, acquiring Gateway would strengthen their U.S. presence to double what it is today. The two companies together would command about 10 percent of the U.S. market for PCs.
