LaptopMag reviews the Kodak EasyShare EX811
Yes I’m still on the lookout for a good digital photo frame. Ever since my experience with the Westinghouse frame last year, I’ve yet to come across a frame that I truly like. I suppose I’m asking for too much.. I’m looking for a decent resolution display (better than VGA), a good user interface, and a good feature set. Is that so much to ask for? Well one such display that I’ve been contemplating has been the Kodak EasyShare EX811. I see it all the time at BestBuy but I’ve actually never really thought about checking it out. Luckily, the folks at LaptopMag did the hard work for me. Before I get to their verdict, here’s what I know about the EasyShare EX811:
- Connect memory cards or your digital camera directly to the frame
- Supports Wi-Fi connectivity
- Supports MP3 playback and video playback
- Built in speakers
- 128MB of internal memory
- Drag and drop features
- PictBridge enabled – print without a computer
- 8 inch wide-screen display
- Supports JPEG, EXIF
- Supports MOV, AVI, MPEG 1 and 4
- Supports MP3
- Measures 11.2 × 8.3 × 1.5 in.
- Resolution of 800 × 480 pixels
- Brightness: 300 NITs
- Contrast ratio: 300:1
- Memory cards: Secure Digital (SD), Multimedia Card (MMC), MEMORY STICK (MS), XD-Picture Card (xD), COMPACTFLASH (CF), MICRODRIVE (MD)
- Remote control
The 800 x 480 resolution is certainly high enough for me.. and the Wi-Fi connectivity is particularly interesting because you can stream photos from a Windows Media Player enabled PC. Here’s the verdict:
Overall, the Kodak EasyShare EX811 is the simplest, best-looking photo frame we’ve tested. It’s also the most expensive. At $229, the Kodak costs $30 more than than the Philips PhotoFrame, which recently received our Editors’ Choice in a roundup of four entries. But the EX811′s Wi-Fi and free EasyShare Gallery synching features make it stand out from the pack. And its ease of use and versatility make it the perfect gift or desk accessory.
So what they’re saying is – they’ve given the EX811 their “Editor’s Choice” award. Nice.
