Insignia NS-LCD37

The folks at I4U.com have published a review of the Insignia NS-LCD37 37 inch LCD HDTV set here on their website. If you’re not familiar with the Insignia brand, then just head on over to your local Best Buy. You’ll see Insignia products inside the retail chain – typically at the lower end of the pricing spectrum.

This particular 37 inch LCD TV features a built in HDTV tuner, a resolution of 1366 x 768 (720p capable display), integrated speakers, an HDMI port and a variety of other fairly standard features. Here’s the actual lowdown:

  • 16:9 ratio
  • Brightness of 550 cd/m²
  • Contrast of 1000:1
  • 3D Y/C digital comb filter
  • Display measures 5″ deep; comes with table stand or can be mounted on a wall (with optional mounting kit, not included)
  • 2 built-in 10W bottom speakers
  • PC input
  • Inputs: 1 S-video, 2 component video, 2 A/V, HDMI, 1 composite A/V, 1 PC and 1 RF
  • Outputs: 1 A/V, 1 audio, 1 digital audio and headphone
  • V-Chip parental controls

Here’s the verdict from I4U:

Overall the image quality was decent, not the best I have seen, but for the price you are still getting a lot of TV. Selling at $799 it’s $500 less than my Viewsonic N4251w and I’ll be honest, many buyers looking at these sets side by side would be hard pressed to decide to spend $500 more than the Insignia 37” Flat-Panel LCD HDTV costs based on the difference I noticed in the image quality.
