Now let’s cover the new Magellan Triton series of handheld GPS units. The new Triton series were announced yesterday and are a new line of rugged, handheld navigational devices designed with a new user interface flow and on-screen graphics. Magellan claims these new features will make the devices even easier to use than ever before. Features of the new Triton series include:

  • Full color touch screen controls
  • Ability to record and attach audio to waypoint files
  • Built in 2 megapixel digital camera
  • Digital compass
  • Barometer
  • Built-in LED flashlight
  • IPX-7 rated and water submersible
  • The first outdoor handheld series to offer users access to downloadable National Geographic topographic maps
  • First Magellan handheld GPS to feature new free map and content management application called VantagePoint. VantagePoint will allow Triton users to download additional maps onto their devices as well as upload stored treks, waypoints, and other recorded media to the PC.

Magellan will be donating a portion of their Triton sales proceeds through December 31st, to the National Park Foundation too!
