Magellan and National Geographic team up
Magellan and National Geographic have announced an alliance that will make the popular National Geographic topography maps fully compatible with Magellan’s handheld GPS receivers for the first time. Starting this fall, Magellan will be the first GPS company to offer full, on screen compatibility, usage, and display of the National Geographic maps via their new Triton series of GPS device (which we’ll talk about shortly). The National Geographic topographic maps are sold separately from National Geographic as part of their TOPO! outdoor recreation mapping software line.
Meanwhile, the new Magellan Triton series will become available in September and is a new line of rugged outdoor handheld GPS devices. All 28 titles of the National Geographic TOPO! outdoor recreation mapping software which cover all 50 states will be able to run on the Triton hand-helds as well as 21 titles of their new Weekend Explorer 3D software series.
