Canadian gym puts Wii in the workout schedule
Yes, the Wii will make you sweat (I was sweating up a storm the first weekend I had the Wii) and that’s one of the reasons the popular game console has made its way into a Canadian health club in Vancouver called Studeo 55. The club has incorporated the Wii into a program called the Wii Workout Station. Members of the club can punch, run, and jump with the game system iin front of a large projection screen set up in a 400 square foot theater room. Gym members are encouraged to use the Wii Workout Station as part of either their warm-up, circuit training, or cool down periods.
Gym owner, Nathan Mellalieu, estimates that one session of Wii boxing, tennis, or bowling will burn off approximately 75 to 125 calories – or the equivalent of a brisk walk. In fact, a study performed by researchers at the Liverpool John Moores University in English found that regular use of the Wii console can help burn up to 1830 calories a week! Heck, I remember sweating up a storm that first weekend I had the Wii at home!)
