Are you looking for a new low cost secondary PC system for the home or school? Wal-Mart might have a solution for you. According to Ars Technica, Wal-Mart will begin selling the Everex IMPACT GC3502 system for low price of $298. The PC comes with the following specifications:

  • 1.5GHz VIA C7-D processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 80GB SATA HDD
  • DVD burner
  • VIA Chrome9 HC IGP graphics
  • Realtek ALC883 HD Audio codec
  • VGA port, 6 USB ports, 2 Microphone ports, 1 Headphone port, 1 Serial Port, and 1 Parallel Port
  • 56K modem
  • Ethernet support
  • Keyboard, mouse, and speakers

To keep the overall costs down, the Everex IMPACT GC3502 comes with the OpenOffice.org 2.2 productivity suite instead of the more typical Microsoft Office or Microsoft Works suite.

While it’s definitely a low cost system, keep in mind that you do get what you pay for. It is after all a VIA 1.5GHz processor-based computer and not a system utilizing an Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon system. Thus – don’t expect mind blowing performance by any means. The Everex IMPACT GC3502 is more ideally suited for basic word-processing, email, and Internet browsing needs.
