Sony Ericsson continues growth and market share gains
I’m sure some of you might find this somewhat interesting. I randomly came across the Q2 earnings announcement for Sony Ericsson just a little while ago on the Sony Global Corporate website. Here are the major highlights:
- Year on year volume growth of 59%
- Income before tax grew 55% year on year to €327 million
- Walkman phone sales of 9 million in quarter
- Expanded portfolio continues to generate market share gains
Sony Ericsson shipped 24.9 million units during the second quarter of this year – compared to 15.7 million units a year ago this time. An interesting figure is the gross margins where Sony Ericsson enjoys a 29.6 % gross margin for the second quarter of this year. One concern is the average selling price per unit which lowered to 125 Euro. Sony Ericsson attributed this lowered price to the increase in low and middle-tier priced mobile phones in the product line. This market segment is also the area where Sony Ericsson is excelling in at this time with the introduction of the W300 and W200 Walkman phones as well as the K310 and the Z310 phones.
Finally, Sony Ericsson announced that they have continued to capture market share in Latin America, Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Financial numbers are always fascinating to look at aren’t they?
