Navizon now available for any Wi-Fi or Bluetooth enabled computer
A company called Mexens Technology has announced a new version of their product called Navizon which is now available for any Wi-Fi or Bluetooth enabled computer. Navizon is a software only wireless positioning system that triangulates signals broadcasted from Wi-Fi access points and cellular towers to help users find their way in most major metropolitan areas around the world.
The key to Navizon is in its’ community based collaborative database. Members with a GPS device can use Navizon to map out the Wi-Fi and cellular landscape in their own respective neighborhoods. The collected data can then be synchronized with the community database which is then made available to all other users of the system. (I like to this of this as a Borg collective of some sort!) This allows users who don’t have GPS devices to also utilize the positioning system.
Navizon works for PCs, Macs, as well as a ride range of mobile devices including Windows Mobile, Blackberry, Symbian, and many Java based phones.
Navizon allows you to :
- See your position on a map
- See the whereabouts of others
- Get directions to your destination
- Leave “spatial annotations” that you can share with the rest of the community
Navizon even has a rewards program compensating those who contribute data to the system. The best thing? It’s free for personal use.
