Thinking about putting together a new PC? You’ll be happy to hear that AMD has announced price cuts on all of their desktop CPUs. According to this News.com blog posting, all of the company’s dual core Athlon 64 X2 processors will be priced at less than $200 dollars. The top of the line AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ will be sold for $178 dollars. The X2 3600+ and X2 3800+ which were the low end processors for AMD, have been dropped from the product line. The X2 4000+ is now the entry level dual core model for AMD – priced at $73 dollars.
Other prices include:
- Athlon 64 FX-72 and FX-74 are both priced at $599 a pair
- Single core Athlon 64 processors now range in price from $48 dollars to $78 dollars
- AMD Sempron lineup now starts at $31 dollars for the 3200+ processor and goes up to $53 dollars for the Sempron 3800+ processor.
Intel is expected to announce price cuts on July 22nd for their quad core desktop and server processors.
