PC Magazine reviews the WowWee Roboquad
PC Magazine has published a review of the WowWee Roboquad animated robot here on their website. The Roboquad is definitely a unique toy.. (if you can even call it that sometimes). It’s billed as the world’s first “true robotic arthropod” and features:
- 4 layer, full function, illuminated remote control
- 72 pre-programmed functions
- 4 modes
- Autonomous operations
- Visual scans the environment in guard mode with a sound sensor that detects noise
- Programmable to up to 40 moves
- Rotating legs and articulated neck
- Control the direction, style of walking, and head movements
- Integrated light sensor
- Smart scan feature – allows it to examine surroundings and then react when anything changes
- Designed for ages 8 and higher
- Requires 4 C batteries and 3 AAA batteries
This is certainly not in the same league as the Robosapien robot that WowWee popularized several years ago.. in fact, it’s arguably way cooler (if a bit more technical). Here’s the verdict from PC Magazine (which gave it three out of five stars):
At $99 (list), the Roboquad is not the cheapest robot toy on the block, but if you are seeking an unusual plaything that will probably never give you the warm fuzzies, but could tax your powers of memorization and comprehension, it could be your new best friend. Come to think of it, this could be exactly the kind of tech toy a 10-year-old would love.
