I didn’t realize this but apparently the digital photo frame market is a hot market to get into now. According to this report over at DigiTimes, both HP and ViewSonic are inquiring Taiwanese-based makers about panel availabilities and costs. The combined deals from HP and ViewSonic could number between 600,000 to one million units. It makes sense for HP and ViewSonic to both enter this market – although they’re coming from slightly different market standpoints. HP already has a solid digital camera and photo printer product lineup so adding digital photo frames to the mix would seem like the logical next step to offering a complete product line for digital imaging. Meanwhile for ViewSonic, this would be a logical extension of their core business which essentially is displays. It’ll be interesting to see if both brand names actually do enter the digital photo frame market. Lord knows digital photo frames need a bit more polish than what’s available now. Don’t get me wrong – what’s available is pretty nice but the user interfaces on these devices tend to be lacking to say the least.
