The Wii outsells the PS3 6 to 1 in Japan for June
Yes folks - Nintendo continues to thoroughly spank the likes of Sony and Microsoft when it comes to console sales in Japan. For the month of June, the Nintendo Wii outsold the Sony Playstation 3 at a ratio of over 6 to 1. I repeat. 6 to 1. According to this Reuters article, Nintendo sold 270,974 units of the Wii in four weeks ended June 24th compared to 41,628 units of PS3 sold. Microsoft sold only 17,616 units of the Xbox 360 during the same time period. These sales numbers prove the point that the Wii isn’t just a fad but rather a force to be reckon with in the next-gen console market in Japan. Let’s briefly compare these sales ratios between the Wii and the PS3. In April, the Wii outsold the PS3 4 to 1. In May, it was 5 to 1. Now in June, it’s 6 to 1. Is it me or do you see a pattern of dominance here? It is important to note that the Xbox 360 is also suffering .. but then again – this is the Japanese market and everyone knows the 360 would have a hard time in that market. However NO ONE expected the Wii to thoroughly spank the PS3. Congrats Nintendo.
