HMV has announced that they will be joining the DRM-free digital music party. Starting this September, HMV will be selling over one million DRM-free tracks on its website at hmv.co.uk and not at the separate hmvdigital.co.uk website. This means HMV customers will have a choice of either purchasing a physical CD or buying digital albums off the web. EMI’s catalog of DRM-free music will be a part of the HMV collection which also includes independent music labels. All tracks will be available with a 328 bit rate. HMV plans on selling the DRM-free tracks for 79p which is cheaper than Apple’s DRM-free tracks at £1.29.
