SanDisk sampling 6 and 8GB microSDHC cards
Those flash cards keep on getting smaller, yet they keep on getting bigger. Case in point, SanDisk announced on Wednesday that they have begun sampling 6 and 8 GB microSD High Capacity (microSDHC) flash memory cards to major phone manufactures and mobile network operators. Folks.. a single 8GB microSDHC card (and that’s a small card mind you), would be able to hold more than 2000 digital music tracks, or more than 5000 images or up to 5 hours of high quality MPEG 4 video. Geez – consider if an 8GB iPhone would simply have a microSD slot – how cool would it be to refill your iPhone with 8 more GB of space?
Interestingly enough – having an 8GB microSDHC card out does mean that multimedia oriented mobile phones will soon have as much storage space as a comparable iPhone – minus of course the cool user inteface and touch screen. You can expect these new cards to appear in retail stores later this year. No word yet on pricing.
