VIA EPIA LT

Looking for a small low powered motherboard? Might I interest you in the newly announced VIA EPIA LT-Series Mini-ITX motherboard? There are actually two models – both of which use the VIA CX700 system media processor and differentiated by the speed of the VIA C7 processor that they are using. One board uses the ultra low power consumption 1.5GHz VIA C7 processor while another board uses the fanless 1.0GHz VIA C7 processor. The EPIA LT is great for embedded applications requiring great performance per watt ratios. The board is stacked full of I/O ports including two LAN ports, support for two LVDS panels, four COM ports, a PCI slot, and up to six USB 2.0 ports. Here’s the specifications breakdown:

  • Available in two models – VIA EPIA LT15000AG using a VIA C7 1.5GHz processor or the VIA EPIA LT10000EAG using a VIA Fanless C7 1.0 GHz processor
  • VIA CX700 Unified Digital Media IGP Chipset
  • Up to 1GB RAM
  • Integrated VIA UniChromeTM Pro II 3D/2D AGP graphics with MPEG-2 video decoding acceleration
  • 1 PCI slot
  • VIA VT1708A High Definition Audio Codec
  • 1 VIA VT6107 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet Controller
  • 3 Serial port pin header for COM2/3/4 (with 5V/12V select jumper)
  • 1 USB pin header for 2 USB 2.0 ports
  • 1 LPC connector
  • 2 SATA connector
  • 1 VGA connector
  • 1 COM port
  • 2 RJ-45 LAN connectors
  • 4 USB 2.0 ports
  • 1 Audio Phone Jack for line out, line in and mic in
  • 1 PS2 mouse port
  • 1 PS2 keyboard port
  • Measures 17 x 17 cm

If I had time, I’d love to build a small media center system with the 1.5GHz model. I’d probably use a less processor intensive GUI such as BeyondTV or something similar. Maybe run a Linux based HTPC. Just ideas….
