T-Mobile launches HotSpot @Home
Remember that T-Mobile HotSpot @Home program we mentioned yesterday? Well the company officially launched the service nationwide on Wednesday. Just to repeat, T-Mobile HotSpot @Home wireless service allows you to use a single phone – whether at home or on the road. When you’re at home, the phone connects to your home broadband network via Wi-Fi where you can enjoy unlimited domestic calling. When you’re on the road, you can enjoy the T-Mobile GSM/GPRS/EDGE network OR the countless Wi-Fi hotspots around the country. The phones in the program will seamlessly transfer the call from a Wi-Fi hotspot to a T-Mobile network should you leave the Wi-Fi hotspot (and vice versa)
T-Mobile is introducing two new mobile phones to support this innovative new service – the Samsung t409 and the Nokia 6086. Each phone will retail for $49.99 with a two year contract. T-Mobile also partnered with D-Link and Linksys to provide Wi-Fi routers that have been optimized for voice calling. You can choose which router you’d like to choose when you sign up for service. The routers will end up being free after a mail in rebate when you sign up for the service.
Price wise, T-Mobile is offering a special deal during this introductory phase. If you have an existing T-Mobile plan, the HotSpot @Home option can be added on for an additional $9.99 a month for a single line OR $19.99 per month for up to five lines on a FamilyTime plan.
