privatunes-soft

A French website called Ratiatum has created and unleashed a simple program called Privatunes which strips away the personal information found on DRM-free music sold by Apple iTunes. Apple recently began selling DRM-free content on iTunes but decided to include personal information of the customer who purchased the track. The purchased DRM-free track includes the name and email address of the purchasing customer. The reason for doing this was to track where pirated music came from. That’s fine and dandy and all.. but there are also privacy concerns here too. Sooo that’s where Ratiatum came into play. They decided to create an app that simple strips away this info as shown here.

The program is available free of charge and may be freely redistributed as non-commercial software. They’ll also be making the source available for anyone who wants to improve upon it or who want to make a Mac or Linux version.
