Engadget receives user feedback on iPhone
We’re less than a week away from the launch of the new Apple iPhone and quite honestly, no one has any idea what the device experience will be like (except those rich enough or in the know to have gotten one already). Luckily the folks at Engadget have received some user feedback from a supposed inside informant who’s been playing around with the unit. Assuming that the informant is for real, here’s what Engadget’s found thus far (and I’m paraphrasing):
- The on screen keyboard just isn’t up to snuff for typing with two thumbs. It’s probably best to “type” using a single finger as shown in all the online Apple videos
- The touchscreen appears to need “somewhat hard presses to register input.” Hey – that sounds a bit like the commentary about the HTC Touch screen.
- The phone comes with a polishing cloth to clean the screen. For $600 bucks, it better!
- The Apple Bluetooth headset will sell for around $120 and will have its own dock for charging both the phone and the headset. The charging interface is similar to the MagSafe interface found on today’s MacBooks
- As can be expected, EDGE network performance is slow – did you really think otherwise folks? YouTube over EDGE was also poor – again – is this surprising? Why should any of this be surprising. If anything – the online videos should stress the playback speeds were accomplished through probably Wi-Fi connections!
- You have to scroll through the address book to find the name of the person you’re calling (or use the right hand side alphabet list). There’s no direct entry of a name to bring up matching contact entries. That’s lame – come on Apple – typing letters to bring up contact matches is one of the fastest and easiest ways to call people. Why do I have to scroll an address book to call someone?
You can read the actual feedback at Engadget’s website here. Again – these are comments from an inside source at Apple provided to Engadget but there’s nothing too surprising here if you ask me.
