XYZComputing reviews Samsung Q1 Ultra
XYZComputing has published a review of the Samsung Q1 Ultra (Q1U-V) device here on their website. Specs on the Q1U-V include the following:
- Windows Vista Home Premium OS
- 7 inch WSVGA touch screen display (1024 x 600 resolution)
- Intel Ultra Mobile Processor A110 running at 800 MHz
- Li-Ion (Prismatic) 4 cell battery with over 4.5 hour battery life
- Two stereo speakers (4 watts total)
- Integrated split-QWERTY keyboard
- Dual cameras – video chat- 300P, video/still – 1.3 MP
- Integrated mouse/joystick
I must admit that I’ve been a bit dubious about ultra-mobile PC’s thus far. I haven’t seen a huge demand for such devices – primarily because the price point is just a bit too high for my tastes. However, it is an interesting platform in general – mostly because any opportunity for me to replace my notebook with something even more portable and perhaps just as useful would be a welcome change. The real question is – what does XYZComputing think of the device?
Overall, Samsung has addressed some of the problems they had with the Q1, but they were not able to get the Q1 Ultra up to where I would want to see a second generation product. The external keyboard and new processor are both well additions but the product is not yet something I could recommend, especially factoring in the price.
Yeah – I was worried about that.
I suppose the UMPC platform is a bit flawed in concept if you ask me. You want something smaller than a notebook with more battery life.. and yet you want it to be cheaper than a notebook. With the current technology available, it’s not clear that it’s possible quite yet.
