Samsung announces one terabyte SpinPoint F1 Series hard drives
More companies are introducing one terabyte hard drives. This time it’s from the folks at Samsung Electronics which has announced the availability of their one terabyte drive – the SpinPoint F1 Series. What makes the F1 series particularly interesting is how large the recording densities are on this drive. The drive is made up of three platters (or disks) which means each disk has a capacity of 334 GB folks! According to Samsung, this is the world’s highest recording density for a 3.5 inch hard drive. Wow!
The new F1 series Serial ATA disks are designed to deliver large capacities, low power, and high performance. Features of the SpinPoint F1 include:
- Whisper quiet operations using Samsung’s NoiseGuard and SilentSeek technologies
- Power saving modes
- Coolest running one terabyte drive on the market
- PMR recording using Samsung’s Flying on Demand head technology
- 7200RPM spin speed
- 32MB cache
- 1.2 million hour MTBF
- SATA 3Gb/s interface with NCQ
- SHOS based firmware
- Vibration tolerance with a rotational vibration sensor and lower power consumption with an optimized SOC
The new Samsung SpinPoint F1 Series is currently shipping with an MSRP of $399.
