Here’s another review of the new LG Super Multi Blue Blu-ray/HD DVD GGW-H10NI reader drive over at CDRInfo.com. The GGW-H10NI is full-fledged Blu-ray reader/writer and HD DVD reader drive. As I contemplate building a new home theater PC, this is the kind of drive that I would consider looking at in order to support both formats on my future HTPC. Key features of the LG GGW-H10NI include:

  • BD-RE/R read and write compatible
  • HD DVD-ROM read compatible
  • Up to 50GB of storage per disc
  • Serial ATA interface
  • Supports Double Layer DVD+R, Dual Layer -R Discs (8.5GB)
  • High Speed Media Support
  • Large buffer memory 4MB

Here’s the verdict from CDRInfo (and you know these guys run their drives through hell and back):

Although the device is considered as a premium product that could attract demanding users only, it could be a good replacement for that old DVD burner connected to your high-end PC if you need the Blu-Ray and HD-DVD formats as well. The drive is currently priced at $1200.

Wow.. $1200 bucks? I might just wait a bit then.
