Immersion’s back in the news today as Microsoft has filed a lawsuit against the company. The suit claims that Immersion has not lived up to the terms of a settlement that the two companies agreed upon back in 2003. Immersion had filed suit against Microsoft and Sony back in 2002 for patent infringement on force feedback technology. Microsoft and Immersion agreed to a settlement in 2003 where Microsoft would pay $26 million for licensing rights as well as a stake in the company. According to Microsoft, Immersion has not lived up to other terms of the settlement which requires Immersion to pay Microsoft “based on certain business and IP licensing arrangements.”
