LaptopMag has published a review of the new Sony VAIO FZ Series notebook (model VGN-FZ180-E/B), giving it their “Editor’s Choice” in the process. I mentioned the new notebook a few days back as being one of the first thin and light notebooks to feature an integrated Blu-ray drive. The unit they reviewed included the following specs:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 processor running at 2 GHz
  • Windows Vista Home Premium
  • 2GB of RAM expandable to 4GB
  • 200GB HDD
  • 15.4 inch display with a resolution of 1200 x 800
  • NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT GPU
  • Wi-Fi
  • USB, FireWire, HDMI, S-Video, VGA, Ethernet support
  • ExpressCard/34 slot
  • Measures 14 x 10 x 1.4 inches and weighs 5.8 lbs

So we know they like it – just how did they verbalize it?

Its combination of power and portability is the best on the market for its class, and the screen is jaw-dropping. And at just under $2,000, anyone even thinking about Blu-ray would be a fool to pass this notebook up.

Hear that? A fool to pass this notebook up. That’s definitely a lofty statement.
