Sony thinks about PS3 price cuts.. but nothing so far
Since we’re on the topic of the Sony PS3 – how many of you have noticed the abundant supplies of PS3 consoles at your local electronics retailer? I drop by BestBuy at least once a week just to see what’s on sale and what’s new (no, contrary to what some of my friends might think, I am NOT buying something new every time I go to BestBuy) and I swear – for the last several months, I’ve been seeing plenty of PS3 consoles locked up in the corner of the gaming section. In fact, while the Nintendo Wii is still never to be found and the new Xbox 360 Elite still remains missing, it’s somewhat sad to think that Sony has an inventory problem with the PS3.
Clearly one way to solve this would be to lower the price of the console. In fact, according to SlashGear, Sir Howard Stringer, chairman and CEO of Sony Corp., recently said “That is what we are studying at the moment. That’s what we are trying to refine.â€
Refine? I suppose they’re trying to figure out the right price adjustments to make – especially in light of the fact that Microsoft could easily reduce the cost of the Xbox 360 without cause for much concern on their part. We all know Sony is losing money on the PS3 and a price cut will further the loss on each console that Sony has to suffer through.. but face it Sony. Without price cuts, you won’t spur demand for the PS3 – UNLESS an amazing game comes out strictly for the PS3 platform. Something’s gotta give right? It seems the only logical conclusion is pricing.
