Could “Rumbling” controllers be coming back to Sony’s Playstation 3 platform? As PS3 fans know, Sony made the decision to remove the rumble feature from the PS3 controllers when they and Immersion faced off in legal battles over the force feedback controller technology. Of course Sony played down the lack of rumble stating that the motion sensors within the PS3 controller was far more useful and “next-gen” (though the Wii controllers are arguably way better). Privately (or not so privately) however, game developers and game players have been longing for the day that rumble might return to the PS3 platform. Now according to DailyTech, that could very well be a possibility as Immersion and Sony have settled their differences and entered into a licensing agreement over force feedback technology. Sony is reportedly working on a new PS3 controller which would feature the rumble technology.. but it’s currently having issues with battery life. The integrated lithium-ion cell within the SIXASIS controllers were never designed to power both Bluetooth wireless technology and the rumble motors.  No one knows when a new controller would come out from Sony but one might speculate that these controllers might be introduced before the release of God of War 3. We’ll see.
