So who were those three men on that Windows Vista DVD?
I always love a good story to start my day. Today the story comes from a Spanish blogger named Kwisatz who noticed an odd thing on his new Windows Vista Business edition DVD. He was taking a good hard look at the Vista holographic logo and he noticed a strange thing. He noticed a picture of three men embedded right into the logo. Woah.. where did that come from? Let’s put aside the question of why Kwisatz was even looking that closely at the logo – why were these men there? Note the picture is so small that there’s pretty much no way the naked eye could make it out.
So the question remained. Who were these guys and did Microsoft know this? Was it a picture put in by some manufacturing guy? Was it an Easter egg? Was it a conspiracy on someone else’s part?
Well sorry conspiracy theorists – according to Nick White on the Windows Vista Team Blog, the three men are members of the Microsoft Anti-Piracy Team and the picture is one of several counterfeit-resistant watermarks found on the DVD.
From White: “These images are part of numerous other security measures that have been designed into our media, packaging and certificates of authenticity. Hence, even though this image has been reproduced on the Web, there are many other features providing further security.”
Ah yes – another mystery solved and my Thursday is looking brighter. I hope you enjoyed this story! Thanks to Kontrib for this article (which originally came from ComputerWorld here).
Here’s the original Spanish blog post. Here’s the Kontrib translation of the blog posting. Unfortunately Kontrib’s translation engine has a hard time with this one.
