Additional reviews of HTC Touch
I came across two additional reviews for the HTC Touch today. The first one comes from PC Magazine where they find:
The HTC Touch looks like a Windows Mobile answer to the iPhone, but Windows Mobile 6 just isn’t made for finger-centric devices.
Seriously now, I had reservations about the HTC Touch. Think about it for a second. Unless HTC made major design changes to the Windows Mobile OS – especially to the core included applications, a new touch oriented user interface wasn’t going to be enough. Sure enough, once you get passed the initial TouchFLO based UI, you’re left with the same old Windows Mobile apps with small buttons and a stylus oriented interface. In order for a Windows Mobile device to truly compete with the upcoming Apple iPhone, the UI AND the applications need to be rethought from the ground up.
Anyhow, here’s the other review which I found via Kontrib.com. This review comes from the French site – generationmp3.com but was translated by Kontrib.com into English. (Here is the original review in French) The review has a video at the bottom too. The translation is a little rough but I think you’ll get the gist of the article. They apparently came up similar conclusions with the touch screen UI. Get past the home screen, and you’re soon presented with the “classic interface” which often requires you to take out the stylus. Here’s the verdict in machine translated English (again from Kontrib):
Is this a revolution? Not
Is this a innovation? Yes for a terminal under Windows Mobile but this interface style has already been presented by Apple with the iphone and LG for the Prada
Does it a better ergonomics? I am reserved because I do not have enough tested but frankly I do not think.
