Apple NAND flash based iPod video rumors
There have been rumors for quite some time that Apple may be releasing a new iPod video device that would end up using flash memory instead of a conventional hard drive. Of course these have all been rumors thus far and in many ways, it could be that the upcoming iPhone really is all that Apple has planned for the iPod for the foreseeable future. In any event, DigiTimes is reporting that Apple has placed monthly orders for 20 million 1 Gbit NAND flash units over the third quarter – suggesting that either Apple plans on ramping up iPhone production OR there really could be a flash based iPhone video like device coming out. Unfortunately the article states that memory prices haven’t really been all that competitive recently and thus, if Apple does intend to release a new iPod flash based player, it might just have to hold things off a bit until prices cool down. Of course, these are all rumors..
