SiS Churchill – world’s first home server motherboard in mini-DTX
Thinking about building a small form factor computer system? You’ve got one more option now thanks to SiS’s new Churchill motherboard based on the new AMD mini-DTX form factor. The Churchill board was developed in collaboration with AMD and Gigabyte and supports AMD’s socket AM2 which means you’ll be able to pop in an AMD Athlon 64, 64FX, Opteron, and Sempron processor. The board utilizes the SiS761GX/SiS966 chipset which is SiS’s latest chipset for embedded systems. SiS calls the Churchill, the “world’s first reference board in AMD mini DTX form factor for home server”.
According to SiS, the Churchill motherboard is designed for systems that require reduced power consumption. This means home servers can now be developed that won’t kill your electricity bill. This also means you can build low power HTPC systems utilizing an AMD processor. It’s all about low power consumption folks.
The board also features an integrated Mirage 1 graphics – but I’m sure you’ll want to upgrade the graphics if your goal is to build a home theater PC.
Other technical specs include:
- 4 PATA ports
- 4 SATA II ports
- RAID 0, 1, 0+1, JBOD, 5
- Gigabit Ethernet MAC controller
- 2 PCI express x1 ports
- Measures 10 x 7 x 10 inches
Another interesting side note about this board – SiS claims this is the world’s first home server system compliant with Microsoft’s Windows Home Server logo requirements. This means you’ll be able to use this board should you decide to build your own Windows Home Server box (by purchasing Windows Home Server separately).
