AMD introduces the AMD LIVE! Home Cinema reference design
HTPC enthusiasts will certainly love this one! Apparently Intel’s not the only one who can design reference PC systems. AMD has announced their new AMD LIVE! Home Cinema platform and is showing off a new reference platform design which combines HD movies, photos, 5.1 surround sound audio, and PC content into a single consumer electronics device. One of the first companies to come out with an AMD LIVE! Home Cinema system is Alienware’s Hangar18HD Entertainment Center (more on that in a bit). Let’s focus a bit on the AMD LIVE! Home Cinema Reference Design.
AMD worked with leading hardware and software companies to help develop this new reference design. The purpose of the AMD LIVE! Home Cinema platform is to simplify digital entertainment by consolidating several AV devices, digital media files, and Internet access into a single all in one device for the living room. Depending on the market needs, companies can take this reference design and customize it to support a variety of components and peripherals. AMD expects additional systems based on the AMD LIVE! Home Cinema reference to become available through the year.
